What a difference a week makes!

After last week’s disappointing game against Madras, the Reds (15 plus 1 sub) turned in probably their best performance of the season at Kettilstoun on Saturday morning. In difficult wet conditions, the home team produced a performance that was full of spirit, good on field communication and lots of skill.

The Reds dominated both territory and possession throughout the game and put real pressure of their opposition. There were several passages of great play with the linking between backs and forwards being particularly effective. In addition, the forwards had real control in the scrums and this provided a great platform for the attacking play of the home side and much of the forwards’ driving play was first class.

The Reds opened the scoring with a fine try after some quick thinking by Josh who took a quick tap penalty and scored near to the posts with Jack adding the conversion. Further tries followed from Freddie and Callum to make the half time score 17-0.

In the second half the Reds continued to play excellent rugby and further tries came from Gregor T and Callum after some fine lead up work from the whole team covering over half of the length of the pitch.

Jordanhill stuck in gamely throughout the match but the home side finished with a flourish and Lewis scored 2 tries in rapid succession with Jack converting the last try of the match to make the final score a very convincing 39-0.

Let’s hope that performances and results such as today’s will allow the team to continue to grow in confidence and realise the importance of being well prepared with a good attitude and supporting each other physically and verbally throughout a whole game.

Trinity Academy S3  5  Linlithgow Academy S3  35

A ring rusty S3 squad playing their first game in nearly a month with two new faces in the team.  The Trinity side they faced up to at Bangholm was much improved from the last meeting.  Following an even first 15 minutes, with resolute defending by both sides, the home resistance was finally broken with a try from Callum, converted by Josh.  Further scores from Finlay (2) and Ally, all converted by Josh, saw the Linlithgow Academy team turn round 28 - 0 to the good.

In the second half, continued great home defence kept the Linlithgow scoring to one try by Callum, converted by Josh.  Near the end of the match, Trinity scored an unconverted try - their first ever against their Linlithgow counterparts in 3 seasons!  Well done!

A good win for Linlithgow and the S3/U15s now enter a busy period of fixtures with school cup, youth cup, youth league and school friendlies.  Improvements all round from all the players both individually and collectively should put them into great positions in cups and league.

U15 Reds -  Raising the Bar!

On Sunday 13th September, Linlithgow U15 won their second league match of the season with a fine 41-0 performance against visiting Hawick Albion.  The match report below is courtesy of Kenny Ewing, while the photos are courtesy of Alison Timlin:

U15 League Match:  Sunday 13th September
Linlithgow  41 – 0  Hawick Albion

Linlithgow U15s were near full strength for the visit of Border team Hawick Albion.  With a starting XV consisting of all S3s for the first time this season, the Reds were quickly into gear and began to dominate their opponents both upfront and out wide.  It was no surprise, therefore, that within 12 minutes the Reds found themselves 19-0 up, with three fine tries and two excellent conversions, one from near the touchline.  The tries, scored by Jack, Gregor T and Callum, all resulted from some excellent off loading and passing play that had their opponents rattled.  Further unconverted tries from Lewis and Stewart capped an excellent first half performance and saw the Reds go in at half-time 29 points to the good.

The second half was much closer, with Hawick raising their game and, despite losing a couple of players to injury, they conceded only two more tries, one from Ally and one from Josh.  The Reds were able to introduce 4 new S2 (U14) players early in the second half and, like their S2 counterparts the week before, all 4 acquitted themselves well and contributed to keeping the Linlithgow line intact for the whole match – no mean feat against a Border side!

Coaches PJ and Kenny were delighted with the overall performance, in particular the excellent start, commenting that this was clearly a step-up on previous performances this season.  The team is now 4 from 4, with a big game this Wednesday (16th) away at Dunbar GS in the Brewin Dolphin U15 Cup.
