Linlithgow Academy Match Reports

School 1st XV Squeezes Tight Win
This was a full squad match, with the first and third periods counting towards the friendly result with Linlithgow squeezing a 7-3 win.  Big thanks to Madras College for accommodating the squad match as it enabled nearly 50 boys to get a match of rubgy, when neither school had enough players for a 2nd XV match.

Archer Debuts for PL
Four Linlithgow members were on hand at Pennypit Park to watch former Reds' Andrew Archer in his debut for Preston Lodge in their 46-17 win over Helensburgh.  Three, his parents and brother, were in the stand while one was on the pitch - referee Ken Richardson.  The surprise of the day?  No yellow cards!  Seriously, though, the Reds wish good luck to Andrew, who is now working and living in East Lothian.

Brewin Dolphin Cup Preliminary Round Ties Confirmed

Pre-season Success for 2nd / 3rd XV Squad

Caledonia District League side Kinross travelled down to Mains Park for a pre-season match against Linlithgow 2nd / 3rd XV.  While the 1st XV players had the weekend off, ahead of next Saturday's first league game away at Ellon, around 30 other players took on Kinross on Lower Mains park, running out six tries to one winners over four 20 minute quarters.  This was a good showing by a young Reds squad which featured 19 players under the age of 23!

Final Pre-Season Match

The Reds entertained Dalziel at Mains Park for the final run-out of the pre-season on Saturday 14th August.

With several experienced players missing, this was once again a great opportunity for the younger players and they certainly made the most of it.

This Saturday the 2nds/3rds have a trial match at home against Kinross, while the 1sts have a training session ahead of the season's opener away at Ellon on Saturday 28th August.

Reds Enjoy Good Run-out at Morgan

The Reds travelled up to Dundee on Saturday and the 1st XV / 2nd XV training squad had an excellent work out against Premier 3 Morgan Academy FP.  Once again the Reds squad was packed with youngsters, who are maturing fast and shaping into a very useful squad.

Reds Pre-Season Kick-Off

The first pre-season training match on Saturday was marred by a serious injury to Ross McHarg – all the best, Ross, for a speedy return to full health!

Dalkeith RFC gave the Reds a good work out and, overall, the Reds fielded 30 players including a good number of youngsters who have progressed through the ranks of Linlithgow Academy.  Indeed, the starting line-up featured Scott Herdman, Dougie Robb and Neil Lockhart in the front five!!  Captain Euan ‘Les’ Richardson was pleased with the performances of all the players especially those of senior debutants David Martin and Mark Stirling.  Next Saturday the Reds visit Morgan Academy FPs for the second pre-season match. For the record, the Reds scored 6 tries – Logan Black (2), Chris Bredin, Dougie Robb, David Martin and Euan Richardson.

Farewell to Dave Woods

All the club's best wishes go to Dave Woods who returns to New Zealand next week, via the States.  Dave played against East Kilbride in the penultimate league match on Saturday, having received his 20 game tie the night before at the club dinner.

Dave is a former room mate of Blair Stewart, who played for the Reds in 2005 and is currently playing in the Top 14 in France with Albi.

Linlithgow 16 - 20 East Kilbride

It was probably a case of the night before on Saturday, as the Reds slipped up at home in their penultimate league match.

Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools
- U15 Bowl Final

Linlithgow Academy 19 - 29  Earlston HS
(HT 7-24)
The young Reds can hold their heads high as they lost out to a strong and determined Earlston side, who finished the match deserved winners.  Having taken the lead in the first minute, things then began to look bleak for the Reds, as they conceded 24 points without reply.  However a strong second half performance closed the gap and made the scoreline more than respectable.  Congratulations to all the squad who have played their parts over the whole season, not just the cup matches.

John Preece reports: That had to be one of the best matches I've been at all season, and I've been at a fair number of SHE Premier 1 matches. Absolutely end-to-end and full of commitment and skillful play, from both teams. Either side would have been worthy winners.

Congratulations to both teams!
