2010 Six Nations

Reduced Allocation of Tickets for Scotland v England Match

Two years ago we were given fewer tickets than we requested for the Scotland v England match at Murrayfield.  The SRU had to reduce the allocation of tickets as demand exceeded supply.  The same has happened this season and we have been allocated only 141 tickets against a request for 188.  We are hopeful that, as happened two years ago, a number of extra tickets will be made available nearer the date as a result of debenture holders not taking up their allocation.  However, it is prudent for us to assume the worst and to re-allocate to match the number of tickets we have been given.

Paul Birrell, who does an excellent job managing the process, has recommended a re-allocation based on certain criteria and the club’s Executive Committee have endorsed this approach.  The criteria used are as follows:

  • Any successful applicant must be a paid up member of the club,
  • Any member of the club is entitled to 2 tickets (ie 2 per separate member or 2 per family),
  • After this, bias will be given to those who ordered tickets through the club for the Autumn internationals – on two grounds, namely that our overall 6 Nations’ allocation was based on the number of tickets the club purchased for the Autumn Tests and also that there was a financial benefit to the club from any Autumn Test ticket sales,
  • Those requesting larger numbers will be hit hardest on a sliding scale basis.

Unfortunately, in any reduction in allocation there will be losers and we will endeavour to seek extra tickets to make up the shortfall.  Let’s hope that what happened two years ago will happen again and extra tickets will be made available.

In the meantime, Paul will be contacting all those affected to advise them of the situation.
