Young Reds Just Miss Out at Gala

Gala Red Triangle U16  22  Linlithgow U16  21

A really good effort by the boys at Gala, narrowly losing out 22-21 to a side who haven't lost at home for 2 seasons. All the more commendable given that the Reds' U16 squad included 7 of the current U15s.

Ian Ballantyne penned us this report which includes an entry into "the world's longest sentence" competition:

After a distinctly rusty and sub standard performance against Dunbar, the Reds travelled to Galashiels to pit their wits against a Gala side who had not suffered a home defeat for two seasons.

Whilst those on the touchline, could be forgiven in the light of the Reds performance at Dunbar to suspect that they might be on the wrong end of a cricket score, the boys proceeded to turn in their performance of the season, dominating the match for long periods and clearly rattling their opponents, particularly in the second half, in their refusal to be intimidated and ability to face up to whatever their opponents threw at them, with the misfortune of a ‘John Terry Penalty shoot out moment’ in front of the posts and a case of ‘white line’ fever late in the contest proving to be defining factors that denied them a deserved victory and spared Gala’s home record.

If the Reds could bottle this performance, and shrug of their tendency towards an over casual approach to some matches, they should have little to fear in their remaining home contests against Boroughmuir and Musselburgh.
