P5s at Gala Tournament (24th April 2010)

P5s at Livingston

The P5s travelled to Livingston on Sunday 30th August 2009 to start their new season.  Here, courtesy of coaches Steve Johnstone and AndrewFleming, is a report and some match photos:

Squad : Donald, Jamie, Callan, Fraser, Euan and Alex

For the first game of the season away at Livingston the P5 boys were determined and excited despite only being a strength of six against Livingston available twelve or so players.

Game 1 : Livingston 9 Linlithgow 9
Tries : Jamie(2), Callan(2), Donald(2), Fraser(2) Euan(1)

This match never looked easy especially after a long summer break and the available numbers on the Livingston side, some of which our boys recognised from previous defeats. The Reds took the first tap and immediately put into practice everything they had learned and used in the latter part of last season resulting in Fraser scoring the first try of the game. From there a try was scored by each side in turn and attacking players on both sides showing equal abilities and using available space to run into.

Euan showed great effectiveness at running into and driving through Livingston defence causing confusion as he passed dummy ball to his team-mates who in turn were able to weave in and out of Livingston defence. Jamie and new player Callan showed great determination and strength in driving their tries through 2 or 3 Livingston players at the try line. Donald and Fraser providing their tries by running around Livingston defence and creating confusion with excellent dummy moves with support from Alex on the wing. The Reds finished the game with a final try to produce a satisfying draw.

Game 2 : Livingston 5 Linlithgow 7
Jamie(1), Callan(2), Donald(1), Fraser(3)

With confidence the Reds went headfirst into this game producing the first 2 tries and an important lead which they knew they had to hold onto. As before the Reds displayed some excellent passing and tackling skills resulting in a couple of minor injuries for Callan and Fraser. The Reds held onto their lead despite Livingston’s ability to bring in fresh legs and the frustration showed as Livingston became more aggressive in their tackles. The Reds remained composed and focused on winning with a 2 try lead which was an absolute credit to them even with no extra players.
