Served Up on a "Plate" - Another Tasty Win!

Balfron High School U-18  0  Linlithgow Academy U-18  10

Graham Black was at the match and penned this short report and provided these photos:

At the third attempt this match was finally played on a damp foggy afternoon in Balfron. The school was relatively new and had very good facilities although the pitch playing surface and side lines were rather wet. Balfron took the kick off and both teams seemed to be up for it, there was a match was on. Both teams seemed eager to get on the score sheet and a few mistakes were made early on.

After about 15 minutes, Linlithgow Academy were awarded a Penalty in front of the posts. Up stepped Andrew Kelly who scored the penalty for 3 points - albeit with the help of the post!!  Balfron were straight back into the game and put the pressure on the visitors.  However, after some good scrummaging Linlithgow managed to get back into the game, but despite some good handling the backs failed to score.

Just before half time Linlithgow were camped on Balfron's try line when Russell Murdoch stole the ball after a scrum and quickly and worked his way over the line for a try which Andrew Kelly converted for 7 points.

Half time:  Balfron High School 0  Linlithgow Academy 10

The second half kicked off and both teams seem determined to compete despite the deteroriating weather. There were lots big scrums won by the Linlithgow pack when they were defending their territory.  Balfron were doing everything they could to get a score, but Linlithgow were determined to keep them out and maintain a clean sheet.

Linlithgow had some good opportunities to increase their score in the second half but their efforts were thwarted and the score remained unchanged.

It was good to take an afternoon off work to watch two groups of boys playing a competitive and sporting game of rugby.  Also thanks to Balfron for their hospitality and good sporting display.
